AVA Meetup 2006 [03 Jan 2006|02:18pm]

Hello, friends!

AWA and AX went off without a hitch, and for the third official AVA meetup, the majority has spoken, and we'll be taking out crazy, crazy internet love outside of the convention circuit. If you are interested in attending, please vote in the poll located here. In the next two to three weeks, I hope to have something finalized, because there ain't no stoppin' this train we're gettin' on.

Again, the poll is located on the VAA at the following link: Click Me!

Hi, there.

Just posting to let everyone know that one poll for next year's AVA Meet Up has been posted. You can find it here:

Please be sure to cast your vote, and do it soon. Also, vote for not-a-con because it's cooler.

Edit: Also, Matt? You must be a member of this community to post. You cannot post, however, if you are merely watching the community. I hope this clears some things up for you. ^.^

AX Rooming Update [06 Jun 2005|09:31am]

[ mood | sick ]

Okay peoples, just wanted to let folks know that I've updated the AX Gather Site with the current costs for those staying in the rooms I've reserved. See the Budget section for the info.

So far there's only 13 people confirmed to stay in the room. (See Accommodations section or this thread) If you are one of those 13, I need you to confirm if you're staying all 5 nights or not. For those whose flight info I have, I know how long you are staying, so anyone else, IM me, PM me, get in contact with me and let me know.

If you are not on the confirmed rooming list and would like to join, you need to contact me by June 10th, 2005. That's THIS FRIDAY, folks!

AX2005 Gathering Site is LIVE! [17 Jan 2005|06:40pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

With a tremendous amount of help from Katie, we finally have the site launched.

AVA Gathering 2005

Go give it a look for current updates and information. We are also adding to the attendance list through posts on the VAA.

AVA Meet-up 2005: Anime Expo

Be sure to post and let us know if you're coming. The more 100% confirmed names we get, the sooner we can plan reservations and other possible accommodations.

And don't forget, this Community is for planning for multiple gatherings. There's a long list of conventions between now and Anime Expo, so if you're wanting to get a group together, please post, or let us know and we'll post on it. ^-^

AX05 Related Stuff [03 Jan 2005|04:59am]

[ mood | discontent ]

Hey, guys. I know it's been awhile since anyone's updated anything and I'm sure people thought this died, but rest assured.. neither of us did. >D

I have some updates for you regarding an updated list of the pre-reg prices (They were kind and lowered them ^.^!), as well as the SPJA OVA Challenge and Artist Alley Registration.

Firstly, as you may have noticed from the last post, I pointed out some rather expensive pre-registration prices. Well, fortunately in light of the holiday season (and lack of pre-regs, I'm sure), the organizers of AX05 have decided to lower the prices just a little bit. The updated list is as follows:

$40.00 USD if postmarked by January 1, 2005 (..Sorry, guys. Just noticed. ._.;; )
$45.00 USD if postmarked by June 15, 2005.
$50.00 US if purchased at the door.

The prices for one and two-day passes remain the same: $25.00 USD and $40.00 USD.

Unfortunately, the online pre-reg system still seems to be down, so you'll have to purchase your pre-reg pass through the regular mail system. Sorry guys! I'll keep you updated for any changes on that, though.

And a side note to our international friends who are interested in going: You can pre-register for the event and don't have to pay the rather excessive fifty dollar door-rate.

For reference, you can find the form here.

Secondly, the SPJA OVA (That's, Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation Original Video Animation) Challenge. What this is, is a chance for aspiring animators to show what they've got. The only requirements needed for said presentation is that it's in "Animè" style art, no more than 5 minutes in length and represents one of the following themes:

- The Spirit of Animè
- AnimèExpo
- International Animè Fandom

For one of the following categories:

- Best of Show
- Best Technical
- Best Artistic

I think the deadline is set for a couple of hours before the competition takes place, so you have a little over six months to work on this.

The official rules and prizes for winners has yet to be posted, so I'll be sure to keep everyone updated on this as well.

And lastly, we have the Arist Alley registration and rules. This is for those of you who might be interested in opening a booth at AX to show off your art. There are a lot of rules for the artists who elect to have a booth or participate in the Art/Modeling show..

The rules are as follows..Collapse )

Prices for tables and display pieces, as well as a better explaination of the rules and whatnot can be found here.

Mm.. I think that's about it. Though, I will need to have a talk with Serena concerning the actual dates for the meet-up. We had planned for the meet-up to last a lot longer than just the weekend of the convention, so I'll have a talk with her the next time I see her on concerning this. I am fully aware that some of you people who might be coming from a further distance will need to know this information as soon as is possible so that they can find the cheapest flight-fares possible.

Hope everyone is having a great new year so far!
Thanks for sitting through another ramble

Pre-reg info for AX [13 Nov 2004|03:06pm]

[ mood | okay ]

Long time no update, but I figured that if many of you hadn't seen the AX website or heard anything about it, then this update would be at least somewhat appropriate.

According to AX's website, you are now allowed to pre-register for the event. I realize that this convention is about eight months away, but I also know that many of you want to save as much money as is possible and buy your registration [among other things] as cheap as you can possibly get it.

The prices for Full [All Days] Passes are as follows:
$40.00 if postmarked by December 15, 2004
$45.00 if postmarked by March 15, 2005
$50.00 if postmarked by May 15, 2005
$55.00 if purchased at the door.

The prices for other passes are as follows:
$25.00 for a one day pass.
$40.00 for a two day pass.
$20.00 for a children's [under 12] pass
Free for kids under five. [Though I don't imagine anyone needing these last two..]

By way of group discounts, AX has a particular deal in which groups of ten or more who are purchasing the same type of membership will recieve a discount of $5.00 per membership (children not included in this discount offer). In order for groups to recieve this discount, all registrations must be paid and recieved at the same time with one payment for the entire group. Additionally, memberships cannot be added to the group later, so you have to be absolutely sure you want to pay whenever the group chooses to.

So, this brings me to an offer to all of you: I know it seems very early, but if anyone is willing to do a group discount so as to save five dollars (it does add up, trust me..), then decide if you're definitely going to be attending AX and see if we can gather a group together by the time December 15th comes around. Though it may seem as if there is a lot of time between now and December 15th, it will come quicker than expected. However, I will ask that if people decide this is something they would like to be part of, that they are definitely going to do this. It would be really awful to send away a payment and then have someone pull out because they suddenly decided that they did not wish to participate in this meet-up. That's not fair to anyone.

Anyway, in order to pre-register you must print and fill-out the registration form, which can be found here (which does include the same information I've provided above), and then send a Check or Money Order [Only Checks/Money Orders] to the following address:

Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation
Dept. 1455
Los Angeles, CA 90084-1455

Unfortunately, for those wanting to pay via online through paypal, online registration for the convention is currently down, so if you have your heart set on paying through that method, then you will have to wait until whenever it is relaunched.

Anyway, I have good news for those of you who live overseas who might be considering attending this convention: You *can* pre-register for this, so don't be shy if you decide it's something you want to pursue. However, it is requested that if you do pre-register, you convert your currency to USD.. so keep that in mind.

Yeah. I think that's everything.
Thanks for your time

Options [11 Oct 2004|02:50pm]

I've been keeping an eye on the AVA Gather 2005 Poll, and it seems that many so far are in favor of holding the major gather at Anime Expo. But since a good number of people are interested in a Midwest Con, as well as an East Coast con, I figure we can coordinate gathers to accommodate those interested.

The major Midwest con I know of is Anime Central, which is near Chicago, minutes away from the O'Hare International Airport (ORD). The convention is currently scheduled for Friday, May 13th through Sunday, May 15th. For those seeking a possible quick meet up, another convention, Anime Reactor, is also taking place in the same Chicago area as ACen later this month, from Friday, October 22nd through Sunday, October 24th. I know that tropicanaomega and hedgesmfg will be there performing in AR's Cosplay Idol competition.

As for the East Coast, the convention of most renown is Otakon. I've heard many people wishing they could attend this con, and so I imagine a gather there wouldn't be impossible for those interested who could afford it. It is on a Friday through Sunday weekend, usually at the end of July or early August. They've not posted their current dates for 2005 yet, but here are their previous scheduled dates:

2004 - July 30th - August 1st
2003 - August 8th - 10th
2002 - July 26th - 28th

The con is located at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland, a very short drive from the Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI).

As for Anime Expo, it is held at the Anaheim Convention Center and the Marriott Anaheim hotel, within walking distance of Disneyland, roughly 15 minutes from the John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, and roughly 40 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The convention is currently scheduled for Friday, July 1st through Monday, July 4th.

If there are any other major cons on either coast or in the Midwest that you would like to have noted for potential gathers, leave a comment with the name of the con and its scheduled dates if they are available. For those outside of the country, please let me know of what conventions in your area may be ideal for a gather as well.

Some people have also mentioned a desire for more intimate gathers, like at someone's home. If you or someone you know is interested in opening your/their home for a gather, things to know would be where you/they are located, how many can be comfortably accommodated in your/their home, and if possible, an ideal time frame for when such a meeting can occur. Things like transportation from an airport or bus station to the meeting place will also need to be planned. I ask that you only extend such an invite if you are 100% certain it is okay. I know many do not own their own place, and often are living with family. It would be very bad to plan for such a gather and then have the meeting place scrapped at the last minute. If you still think you can do this, feel free to leave the info in a comment, or send an email.
